Space Jockeys are up in this house
When thinking about Prometheus the main question that runs through my head is, do people in 2012 remember the Alien movie? The venerable franchise has been relegated to B-Movie land with the Aliens vs. Predator and the last few films showed a serious dip in quality.
TED talks are getting commercial
Fox's answer to this problem is to make this a whole new franchise. The above TED talk came out about two months ago as a teaser Prometheus. This video fleshes the universe of the film and creates a recognizable face for newcomers.
In the trailer posted by Danielle, the film isn't being marketed as the prequel to Alien but rather a look at humans finding extraterrestrials. Co-Screenwriter Damon Lindelof says, "A sequel to this film would be Prometheus 2 not a retelling of Aliens." Creating a new franchise based in the same universe and is one way that this film can capitalize on old fans while trying to generate new viewers.
