Is "People V. The State of Illusion" Worthy of a 2 Star Review?

I wasn't sure what to think when I was reading this article on azcentral.com. People V. The State of Illusion was given two stars out of five by Bill Goodykoontz who said: "Unfortunately, the Scott Cervine-directed film gets bogged down in a hackneyed tale of a man sent to prison for manslaughter and his nearly miraculous conversion from first-rate selfish jerk to something approaching a messiah figure." My initial reaction was: "WHAT?!"

Yes, the film cut from interviews with experts and then back to the reenactment sequences, but I think Goodykoontz completely missed the message of the film. It's evident by the film's poster that this is a docudrama about our perception of reality. In fact, the poster introduces the message up front and to me, the film enhances that notion. I really enjoyed the documentary and believe that the message was conveyed well, for what it's worth.

"People v. State of Illusion" Debuts as No. 1 Movie Over the Weekend

This film did pretty well for itself when it first came to indie theaters (such as the Harkins Camelview) back in September.

I like that this article asks Hollywood, "Are you watching?" because Hollywood does not seem to always pay attention to the indie films, which can be better than the Hollywood films sometimes.

Breaking the State of Illusion: The Neuroscience of Mindfulness

This is a Psychology Today article synthesizing many of the ideas found in People v. The State of Illusion. The core of the movie is that there is a distinction between the content and process of our thoughts. As we train ourselves to be mindful of the process, we can then make choices consistent with our desired perceptions. Making these choices helps us achieve real things and also decrease stress.
This is the film brand's thematic root.
