Fandango's elite list of Top 5 Ticket Presellers has been dominated by Harry Potter and The Twilight Saga, until today.
Today, the No. 4 spot is held by The Hunger Games, which has grossed a little over $15 million in ticket presales, overtaking The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. It's projected that by Thursday, it will pass The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 and take the No. 3 spot.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, this has led some box-office observers and exhibitors to think that The Hunger Games will have one of the biggest domestic debuts of all-time, projecting it to open anywhere from $130 million and $140 million. It's already expected to surpass the $116 million opening of Alice in Wonderland (2010), making it the biggest March opener to-date.

"The Hunger Games" Outsells "Twilight" in Advance Ticket Sales
The first film for the highly anticipated series The Hunger Games has officially taken the number one spot for most advance ticket sales in Fandango history from Twilight.
Fandango saw the most ticket sales in the history of the company the first day that tickets went up for sale for the The Hunger Games; Fandango reports that "hundreds of Hunger showtimes are already sold out for the March 23 opening."
If this is any indication for the success of the project, I think we may be looking forward to a hugely successful franchise.
