Actor Teases with Vague Details on 'The Cabin In The Woods'

This article covers one of the actors in "The Cabin In The Woods", Bradley Whitford, as he praises the film and attempts to generate interest. It's pretty standard PR talk show stuff. But what I found interesting was:

"The genre-bending film is helmed by "Cloverfield" writer Drew Goddard, who makes his directorial debut. He and Joss Whedon co-wrote the film."

I found this interesting because the film seems to have a similar marketing strategy to Cloverfield, in that it is trying to generate interest based on curiosity by revealing little information.

The article describes the film as such:

"Chris Hemsworth stars as a young professional who visits a quaint cabin in the woods with a group of friends and ends up thrust into events so massive and horrific that they can only begin to fathom it as time quickly runs out."

This is reminiscent of the vague advertised premise of Cloverfield, which was along the lines of "something attacks Manhattan."

This method of marketing generates interest based on curiosity, but requires that less information about the film is revealed during promotion. Goddard likely had this strategy in mind while writing both films.
