Oscar voters aren't always who you might think

With the Oscars happening this weekend I thought this was an interesting article about the exclusive and mysterious group that is the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. In the article, it talks about how esteemed filmmakers such as Woody Allen and George Lucas are not in the Academy, but then people such as Meat Loaf and Erik Estrada are Academy members.

Former Academy president Sid Ganis is quoted in the article as saying that sometimes you 'scratch your head' as to why some people are in the Academy and some are not. That's comforting considering that winning an Oscar can greatly impact a film's financial success, an actor's career, and a studio's prestige.
