"To my film students, I'm sorry we are going to have to cancel my entire curriculum if this passes. This semester alone I wouldn't be able to show Blade Runner, Chinatown, Shampoo, L.A. Confidential, To Live and Die in L.A., Menace II Society, Beverly Hills Cop, Swingers, Collateral, The Kids Are Alright, Falling Down, Beloved, Thelma and Louise, Romeo Must Die, or clips from Training Day, Crash, Boys Don't Cry, Far From Heaven, Jackie Brown, Deep Cover, Boyz in the Hood, The Player, Predator, Terminator 2, Pulp Fiction, and a bunch of others that I'm forgetting.
But, hey, we can still watch The Lion King!!
So if you want to continue to be film students at ASU- for which you are paying your own money, I might add - I need you all to get up now, go to the window, open it and shout, I'm mad as hell and I'm nog going to take it anymore!
Then I need you to write letters to your legislators asking them to please stop censoring on the behalf of others and furthering the infantalization of society as the result of their own stunted intellectual and emotional development."
If you have the time, read through this article because it does affect us as film students who study various films. Yes, I can understand the state's concern for the information being exposed to students, but we're in college, not junior high. What would happen if we couldn't learn about 90% of the films we are watching in class?
